Toddla T’s phenomenal album Foreign Light is out now.
Having cut his teeth as a producer in Sheffield and finding himself working with Roots Manuva on his 2008 LP `Slime & Reason’ a move to London Town was next on the cards. Consequently, after completing an Essential Mix for the BBC, Toddla states that he became a regular presenter on Radio 1 & Radio 1XTRA; not ever having planned to step into the broadcasting world; but thriving in the radio environment.
Keeping music-making at the forefront of his career, the producer has built a hugely successful and prominent position as both a tastemaker and influencer, with a running influence of Jamaican culture and music. Regular trips to the island consisting of studio sessions, beat making and DJing at street parties such as Stone Love’s Weddy Weddy Wednesday plus producing an early mixtape with JA icon Protoje and being part of Major Lazers early adventures to Jamaica. Toddla then released music on Ninja Tune, before starting his own label and brand ‘Steeze’; a bold visual aesthetic that has also spawned a clothing label.
Running his own stage every year at Notting Hill Carnival, Toddla’s Summer of 2017 is set to be as high-octane and fruitful as his last, with even more added shows surrounding his new material. A 365 day-a-year role, Toddla T’s Notting Hill, Spring and Winter Carnivals, consume the vast majority of his time; however 2017 will see the producer working harder than ever before, with the promise of new music throughout the year.
